Merry Mower LLC & Landscaping
What does your business offer and what sets you apart from “normal contractors”?
What Merry Mower can offer is that we are a true small business and we are not rushed like you might see with a larger landscaping company. We take our time to make sure every job is a good job and every customer is happy when we leave. Also one thing I love is that because we are so small, I as the owner am also still out there getting to know the customer and doing the work.
What is the job you are most proud of that you have done within your business?
I would have to say I am the most proud of when we were able to help an elderly couple who has not been able to maintain their property for 3 months or more. We were called and able to make the yard look beautiful. It did take two days but we got it done and the customer was happy when we left.
What is the funniest thing you have seen while doing an estimate or job?
Probably the funniest thing was when we were building a small fence to keep the deer out of a back yard as well keeping the dogs in. The first day we came of set the posts and placed the wire mesh on the post. When we came back the next day we noticed a deer had actually ran through the fence. The wire mesh was bent with a perfect indention of the head and the posts were out of alignment with and hair was everywhere.
Where do you see your Fire Department career in 5 years?
I see myself as a paramedic and completed all technical rescues disciplines.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
In 5 years I do want to grow, right now I have about 15 clients and I would like to have 30 clients mixed between commercial and residential with a small crew that provides quality service.
What is the best advice you can offer a potential client looking for services like yours in your industry?
I would have to say know what you want and expect the best.
What is your why? (Why do you get up every day and go to the FD or your other job(s)?
I get up and go to fire department because it is the best job in the world. I love my brothers and sisters and we can all count of each other. The fire service has its ups and downs and can be very draining but I know my fire dept. family always has by back and keeps me going. Also when we get a fire it bonds crews together like nothing else by knowing you are surrounded by deadly conditions and your partner has you back through it all.
If you could change one thing in the business world, Fire Department or private sector, what would it be?
I would change that it has become okay to do just enough to get by. I have seen more and more firefighters only doing the minimum amount of work possible which is dangerous and potentially deadly. I believe that there is no place for mediocrity in the fire department. I expect my crew to give me and the citizens the best they can do and nothing less because that is what I give them.
